Happy Endings

Seven day detox completed!!

When I mention that I am on a detox cleansing program for 7 days most people put on a look that’s hard to describe. It’s kind of a combination of consternation, agony and terror.

I think what scares people most is that they think they might starve to death. When it really is nothing like that at all.

It is true that the first 2 days consist of fasting on only pure water, and green and herbal teas. But once I go without food for a while, I can see why fasting is a big part of so many of the worlds religions and has been around for thousands of years as a spiritual practice. There is a special kind of “high” that goes with it, which is hard to explain.

After 2 days of fasting, for the next 5 days I eat only fresh fruits, vegetables and brown rice.

Every day is spent practicing yoga, meditating, taking walks, enjoying saunas or herbal baths, relaxing and reading spiritual books. I try to make it like my own little at home “spa” retreat.

It really it a delightful week set aside just for me. For me to withdraw from the “hurry-up keep-up” world we live in. For me to give my body a time to rest and cleanse from all the toxins we are exposed to. For me to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy myself.

Maybe some people think it takes a certain frame of mind, a special attitude, and a lot of discipline to spend a whole week on a detox cleansing fast. And maybe that’s true.

But to me it’s a special time spent pampering myself, knowing I am spending quality time to enhance my health and well-being.

Great to read about your detox - I'm a big believer in doing this every once in a while and it's amazing how much your body thanks you! We wouldn't have to detox if we didn't inhale so many toxins both in the air and in the processed food we eat. There are so many different types of detoxes as well. People just have to choose one that works for them.

Hi rand(om)
You are so right; there are many ways to detox and many other ways to take care of our health. The toxins are not going to go away, they are most likely going to get worse, so it is up to us to be aware, conscious and responsible for taking care of our own body. As Jeff Novick says "Your health is your wealth."
I've been reading your blog about your study of nutrition and health and love it. good luck with your studies.

great post! I'm so glad to hear that your detox was your time to really focus and care for yourself. :)
I'm really rather envious, and wish that my detox earlier this year was like that... maybe when my young kids are a little less dependent on mommy, I'll be able to do that.
thanks for sharing... :)

Hi Nennette
Thanks for dropping by.
It does make it a little more difficult with little ones around to get things dones. Life is always more hectic with kids, but its worth it.
Don't worry, you are on the right track taking caring of your health through the detox you did and through CRON.
Keep up the good work.
